Say hello to the instax mini 13™

There’s always that moment. Everyone’s together, the setting’s right, and no one wants to be the one standing outside the frame holding the camera. The instax mini 13™ fixes that.

This is the new instax™ mini camera with a built-in self-timer: 2 seconds or 10 seconds, prop it on any surface and step back. Priced at £79.99, it prints on instax™ mini film (sold separately) and comes in five colours.

Here’s everything worth knowing before it goes on sale 25th June.

The self-timer: the whole group, finally in the shot

The headline feature on the instax mini 13™ is the self-timer. Two options: 2 seconds or 10 seconds.

The 2-second delay is for when you’re almost in position. Set the camera down on any stable surface, step back, and it fires before the vibe shifts. The 10-second option is for when you actually need to move. Step back for a full-body selfie, get across to your group, or get into the frame from wherever you left the camera. Both do exactly what they say.

The wrist strap is worth a mention too. Built into it is a wedge-shaped angle adjustment accessory that tilts the camera upward when propped on a surface. Setting a camera down flat tends to produce a shot of the ceiling or everyone’s chins. The accessory sorts that out, keeping the lens pointed at faces. It’s a small detail, but the kind that makes the difference between a print worth keeping and one that gets forgotten about.

Think of the scenarios where this actually helps: a rooftop with no room to back up, a group huddle at a gig, a beach day where nobody’s phone is on them. The instax mini 13™ camera means you’re not asking a stranger to hold your kit. Prop it. Set the timer. Everyone’s in. Nobody misses it.

It’s also a proper tool for full-body selfies. Step back far enough and the camera captures the full fit, the whole setting, or both.

Time for the unexpected: the camera gets out of the way

The instax mini 13™ doesn’t ask much of you. That’s deliberate. Automatic exposure handles the lighting across a wide range of conditions, from bright beach days at the coast to festival tents at dusk. The flash range covers 0.3m to 2.2m, so it works for close-ups and group shots without you having to adjust anything.

Hold the shutter and the camera reads the scene. Whether you’re catching a golden hour moment outdoors or shooting with flash indoors, it adjusts. Your job is just to press the button.

The instant print is what completes it. No scrolling through 400 near-identical shots later. No sending it to a group chat at midnight. The instax™ mini film pops out and that’s the one. You hand it to whoever’s in it. Time for the unexpected to land somewhere it can actually be kept.

Close-up mode: get in close, whatever you’re shooting

The instax mini 13™ also has close-up mode, with parallax correction built in. Switch into close-up mode and the viewfinder syncs with the lens, so the shot you frame is the shot you get on film. No offset, no subject drifting out of frame.

It’s good for portraits and close selfies, and just as useful for the details that don’t involve faces at all. A stack of friendship bracelets the morning after a festival. A close-up of someone’s fit before heading out. Something small and specific on a beach that would get completely lost in a wider frame. The instax mini 13™ instant camera handles both without fuss.

Five colours worth choosing between

The five colourways on the instax mini 13™ are worth treating as a proper decision.

Dreamy Purple and Candy Pink have obvious energy. Both belong in festival pockets, beach bags, and OOTDs where the camera is part of the look. Frost Blue goes cooler and more understated, better for a kit where the camera doesn’t dominate. Lagoon Green sits somewhere between earthy and aquatic, a bit different from the usual pastels. Clay White keeps it clean and pairs with everything.

None of them are wrong. Pick whichever one fits your summer. The camera performs the same in all five.

There’s also the instax mini 13™ camera case (sold separately) to match or mix it up.

What’s sold separately (and why it matters)

The instax mini 13™ is priced at £79.99. A couple of things worth knowing before you buy.

instax™ mini film is not included. You’ll need a pack loaded into the camera before you can shoot. instax™ mini film comes in a range of designs beyond standard white borders. Confetti, Monochrome, and a handful of other options all work in the mini 13™. The film you pick adds another layer to the print, so it’s worth a browse before you commit to a pack.

The instax mini 13™ camera case is also available separately. If this is going into a festival bag, a day pack, or anywhere that isn’t a sheltered pocket, a case is the sensible move. It keeps the camera protected between shots and gives you another way to personalise your kit. Cases will be available at instax.co.uk/accessories from launch.

What’s different about the instax mini 13™ compared to other instax™ mini cameras?

The self-timer is the main thing. The instax mini 13™ is the first camera in the mini range to include one. The wrist strap’s integrated angle adjustment accessory works alongside it to keep the shot framed correctly when the camera’s propped on a surface. Together they open up shots that weren’t really possible to set up solo before.

Other cameras in the instax™ camera range bring different things. The instax mini 41™ has a timeless design with automatic exposure and a clean charcoal aesthetic. The instax mini 99™ is the premium pick, with a colour effect dial, a manual vignette switch, and bulb exposure mode for more creative control. The instax mini 13™ is the one to go for if you want a camera that’s easy to use every day and actually gets everyone in the shot.
