Get in on the 2025 photo album scrapbook challenge

New Year means it’s time to find another hobby to keep your busy mind… well, less busy.

You’ve tried the cosy games, attempted crocheting, and spent more money than you want to admit on those trendy watercolour pens that everyone seems to have. But what’s next on the to-try list? You’ll know by now that at  instax™ we’re all about going back to basics with a twist.

It’s time to take inspiration from your shopping catalogue-scrapping days. Get ready to spend your no-scroll time in 2025 snapping away and creating a personalised scrapbook filled with the moments you want to keep close.

Trust us, scrapbooking isn’t just for the Pinterest pros. Grab your instant camera or photo printer, pick your film, and let’s get into it.

Why physical prints will always be on the in list

Digital pics are great, but when was the last time you really scrolled back through your camera roll? Say RIP to all those snaps that never made the ‘gram, sent away to the photo graveyard, otherwise known as the cloud.

Physical prints are (without a doubt) the 2025 vibe. Tangible, aesthetic, and totally personal. Plus, scrapbooking is a cute, screen-free hobby to have and is perfect for those moments of downtime.

In a world where every feed is filled with unrealistic expectations and experiences, your scrapbook can act as a little reminder of reality. It’s a space for what matters most to you: the roads you’ve travelled, the hurdles you’ve jumped, and all the people who stuck with you along the way. To us, that’s way better than any curated feed.

  • Pick your player

Your 2025 photo journey starts with picking your instax™ of choice. Take your time with this decision, because this piece of tech will be your sidekick through the thick and thin of the year.

mini film

Our instax mini™ instant cameras and photo printers have the widest variety of film designs. Did someone say party? Whip out your Confetti film and give your besties the background they deserve. First date gone better than expected? It might be time to give your Heart Sketch film a test run before you go official…

These are just two of the 19 design options you can choose from. Set the scene, snap the moment, and let your chosen film design brighten and fill the pages of your scrapbook.

The best part? Our instax mini™ film will look just as chic when used in our older instant camera and printer models. Talk about versatile.

SQUARE film

Pick up the phone, because the real-life-insta-grid is calling. Treat all your pics to a neatly framed border and your scrapbook to an aesthetically pleasing layout. Choose from 7 film types, like Star Illumination for that spontaneous concert or White Marble for your bestie’s housewarming meal.

3. Start scrapbooking

Scrapbooking should be a stress-free, fun hobby — not something that lingers on the bottom of the to-do list.

To keep the procrastination at bay, schedule one day at the end of every month to add to your scrapbook. Make scrapbooking your own non-negotiable monthly ritual with a playlist that fits the mood and a nice drink.

Everything you need to get started:

  • A blank scrapbook or journal
  • Colourful pens, pencils, and markers
  • Washi tape, stickers, and decorative paper
  • Glue dots or a similar adhesive
  • Your stack of instax™ prints for the month
  • Bonus: concert tickets, receipts, pressed flowers or plants, little mementoes, cut-outs from books or magazines, etc.

Photo scrapbook layout tips

Remember — it doesn’t have to be perfect. In fact, it shouldn’t be. This is your scrapbook — flaws and all. Who cares if it’s a little rough around the edges? The best things in life are.

If you’ve already got a layout plan in mind, it’s time to let your creativity run riot. Not sure where to start? Here are a few tips.

  • Get multi-dimensional with it: Use a mix of prints, cut-outs, and mementoes to tell the story of your month. Don’t be afraid to layer the page with doodles, handwritten captions, and anything else you’ve gathered. It’s all part of the plot.
  • Follow a theme each month: Too much creative license getting you stressed? Try and come up with a theme to sum up each month. Think clean aesthetics for January, heart-studded romance for February, cottagecore for spring, and beachy vibes for summer.
  • Fill the pages: Using one page for one month is so restrictive. Your scrapbook shouldn’t have any rules, so try not to stress if your January takes up four pages, but your February only takes up one. 2025 is all about going with the ebbs and flows, so it makes sense for your scrapbook to mirror that.

4. Look back in a year

By the end of 2025, you’ll have a scrapbook time capsule of your year in instax™ prints. Whether it was a year of getting over the J-name ex, breaking that bad habit, or broadening your horizons, each page will remind you of the exact moment, vibe, and feeling.

Make sure you grab a few tissues before you sit down with your scrapbook at the end of 2025. It’s your life, documented — it’s okay if you let out a few blubbers here and there.
